The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was founded in 1990 in the heart of Tokaji, Hungary by the internationally renowned English oenologist Hugh Johnson, together with fellow oenologist Ben Howkins, Danish winemaker Peter Vinding-Diers and a partnership of 60 winegrowers in the Mád region.
The goal of all involved was the revival of the legendary Tokaji, the unique sweet wine produced from grapes affected by noble rot in the volcanic soils of Tokaji. A revolutionary revival that swept the entire region, putting Tokaji back on the list of the world’s top restaurants.
Royal Tokaji is Hungary’s winery with the greatest international reputation, consistently ranked at the top of Wine-Searcher’s Most Popular, Best and Best Value categories, named 4 times one of the “Most Admired Drinks Brands in the World” by Drinks International, has been included 6 times in the “World’s Top 100 Wineries” by Wine & Spirits Magazine. In addition, its wines are often included in lists such as James Suckling’s Top-100.
