SCHIOPETTO

Description

Mario Schiopetto was a personality who wrote many golden pages in the wine history of Friuli for his botanical, balanced and crisp white wines. Located in the Collio region, a wonderful place in Northeastern Italy right on the Italian-Slovenian border, Mario Schiopetto already believed in the potential of Collio, a region between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, since the 1960s. The continental climate offers hot days in the summer, giving the grapes perfect ripening, while the cool nights preserve the acidity, delay ripening and develop the aromatic profile of the wines.

Colli means ‘hillsides’ from the hills that follow each other without interruption, between small villages and vineyards. A place that produces unique white wines characterized by aromas of herbs, flowers and fruits. The most widespread varieties are Friulano, Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Bianco, with the red Bordeaux blends and the blends with Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, now a timeless red best-buy. It has been a long time since 1970, when the vineyards around the Archbishop’s Palace in Capriva were leased to Mario Schiopetto by the church, their reformation and purchase by the family in 1989. What is finally left is the establishment of an entire region through Mario’s vision of freshness, refinement, purity and respect for the natural environment of Collio.
